It was a whirlwind weekend. To celebrate my grandfather’s 88th birthday we headed over to ‘The Farm’ to help him blow out the candles (and who is better at helping to blow candles than children???!). We were buckled into our seats by 5:30 Saturday morning and were getting some nice, solid Mom and Dad hugs by 1:30!

The night before we were heading out I talked with my mom and she said that my cousins Keith and Dalys and their daughter Alexis were to be there. This was an added bonus since we rarely have seen them while they have moved about for the military. When we became reacquainted, we found one of the nicest families ever! Gigi, upon hearing that Alexis would be there, commented how happy she was that she would have a cousin at the party! The girls remembered one another and found their fast friendship still intact. Alexis is a sweetheart-gentle girl, like Gigi. She took the best from her mom and dad in both looks and personality and is one of the nicest and cutest ten year olds we’ve had the pleasure to play with. A perfect playdate!

While it was the fastest trip there and back to The Farm that we’ve ever made, it was also one of the richest. We connected for Grandpa’s birthday but hugged, kissed, talked, sang and spent a lovely, quick, weekend full of laughter and love with people who really care about us like we care about them.

I thanked my grandpa at the end of his birthday evening for giving us such a great excuse to come together. Four generations sat around that table last night and it was pretty darn near perfect. Happy 88th Birthday, Grandpa, and cheers for many more! Maybe we’ll help you blow out those candles again in another year or so!
