Today Martha took off. She was outside taking a potty break when the thunder started rolling, lightning was flashing and the wind was blowing fiercely. What’s a dog to do? RUN! Run like the devil is chasing you, that is what a dog does. Martha was seen streaking down the street hell bent for leather by one neighbor. As soon as Bradley heard the thunder he thought of that dog, that scaredy dog of ours. He rushed to the door to call her in, but by then she was nowhere to be found.  She wan’t even wearing her collar today – we had just dosed her with Advantage last night – so she had no identification on her. Really scary.
Martha is our first girl. We got her right before we found out we were pregnant for the first time.  She has been with us since the early days of our family and to have her missing is unthinkable. She is the perfect family dog, always so gentle and sweet with the kids as they reach down her throat and poke her in the eyes. She has never bit, nipped or even growled at our human babies no matter how much they abuse the poor girl.
At work, I received a teary call from my family as they made their way through the neighborhoods calling out to our beloved dog, but they spied not a single golden Martha hair. They had enlisted the help of our dog loving neighbors who were heard through the neighborhood calling her name, but still no Martha. I headed home with the task of making and posting signs around the neighborhood while Bradley planned to head out on his bike with a more personal approach, knocking on doors and calling her name. I hadn’t even chosen the pictures yet for the posting when I got a call from Bradley that he had found her in the care of three 6th grade girls who were going house to house to find her owners. Bradley reported that they seemed a little disappointed to have completed their task.
Gigi was still in poster making mode when we found her so we went ahead and printed out a picture so she could make a poster anyhow. Here’s what she came up with:
In case you’re wondering, that says, “Martha is back.” And yes, that is lip gloss used to adhere the photo of Martha to the poster. And we are all glad that Martha’s ass is back!
***my apologies, I don’t usually swear, but this just presented itself!
